Dirk Langendyk

The Battle of the Pyramids and The Battle of Alexandria

singed and dated 1803

Although not present at either battle, Landgendyk had travelled with Napoleons invasion force to Egypt.  He was amongst many scholars, scientists, philosophers and artists to travel with the army with the intention of bring North European culture to Egypt and indeed to absorb all that this new world had to offer France in return.

Examples of Langendyks work can be found at the Ryksmuseum,  the Met in NY and the National Gallery in London.
